European Public Real Estate Association (EPRA) | 200 Members | €250 BN in Assets

EPRA Case StudyPlaying a key role in the sustainability reporting of €250 billion of real estate assets across Europe

In taking a lead on sustainability reporting for its members, EPRA needed to establish a clear policy position on performance indicators that would allow for consistent and comparable standards, and be used to influence the development of future sustainability initiatives and regulation. It turned to the reporting expertise of Jones Lang LaSalle to gain a clearer understanding of its members’ positions, to establish a consensus on indicators and reporting protocols, and to produce best practice recommendations.

Through in-depth interviews with EPRA members and an online survey we were able to gauge current sustainability reporting practices and positions.  The results of the engagement programme were then shared with EPRA through interactive workshops and the findings used to evolve Best Practices Recommendations (BPR) on key indicators such as energy consumption and emissions intensity.

After a thorough 12-month process that involved every relevant stakeholder, the BPRs were launched in 2011, establishing key sustainability performance measures that will raise transparency in sustainability reporting and ensure that listed property companies continue to act as pioneers in sustainability. As a consequence of this success, Jones Lang LaSalle has been appointed for a further three years to advise EPRA on its Sustainability Best Practice Awards.
