Grand Designs : Retail development in Cambridge (UK)

When Cambridge’s new 450,000 sq ft Grand Arcade opened its doors on 27 March 2008, it marked the completion of the historical city’s centre first retail development in a generation.  At the same time it was the culmination of no less than eleven years’ work by the teams at Jones Lang LaSalle.

The Investment Advisory team was responsible for advising the Joint Venture Partners (Grosvenor and USS) on the site assembly, local authority and anchor tenant pre-let negotiations, the CPO process and design development. Not to mention the temporary re-location of the on-site Magistrates’ Court, and the challenge of keeping anchor tenant John Lewis Partnership continuously trading.

Jones Lang LaSalle were then appointed joint letting agents. In addition to the John Lewis Partnership, tenants include LK Bennett, Apple, Ted Baker, River Island, All Saints, Links, Hobbs, Coast, Laura Ashley, Wallis, Carluccios, TM Lewin, Hugo Boss, Warehouse and Topshop. Initial footfall and trading figures have been well above expectations.
