Blue Square Bets on Edinburgh Move

Edinburgh, 13 February 2013 – Blue Square, one of the UK’s largest on-line betting services, has relocated its Edinburgh base to Hanover House - a grade B listed building in Edinburgh’s city centre.

Rank Interactive – the owner of Blue Square – has signed a four year lease to occupy the 2,267 sq ft open plan unit in the recently refurbished townhouse, at a rental rate of £16 per sq ft.

Launched in 1999, Blue Square has grown from its traditional bookmaking business to offer all aspects of the gaming market including casino, slots and poker with a goal to increase the product range in the near future. In January 2003, the business was acquired by Rank – one of the UK’s leading leisure and entertainment companies. The two businesses integrated to create a major force in on-line gaming with a combined customer base of over 750,000 customers.

Hanover House, on Hanover Street in Edinburgh’s historic New Town, was built in 1799. The four storey mid-terraced building is ideally placed to take advantage of all the local facilities and amenities within the immediate vicinity. A full refurbishment of the entrance and common parts of the building was completed in 2012.

Jones Lang LaSalle and WYM Real Estate acted for the landlord.

Craig Watson, Associate Director at Jones Lang LaSalle commented: “The refurbishment of Hanover House played a major part in Rank’s initial interest in the premises, providing yet more evidence of the importance of presentation for the rental market. The landlord speculatively invested in a refurbishment project and are now reaping the benefits by securing Rank’s tenancy. In a market where supply of new Grade A property is extremely thin on the ground, we’ll continue to see more refurbishments throughout the course of the year”.
